CEI Michigan, LLC has earned a reputation as one of the country's most progressive roofing and architectural sheet metal firms. We pioneered single-ply roofs in the late '70s and '80s, are one of the first roofing companies to maintain our own sheet metal shop. By the 90’s CEI’s sheet metal department started to install metal wall panel projects and today, we are leading the way in green roofing projects and composite and insulated wall panel projects.
As a union-shop, CEI is also known for our trade craftsmanship. Some of the lost art and techniques for working on architecturally-challenging or historical elements have been preserved and passed down from veteran roofing and sheet metal professionals.

A Short History of CEI
A side business installing small roofs that began in 1969 out of George Cook's den is now, more than 50 years later a full-service building envelope contractor. In 1978 the company then being lead by the brothers George and John Cook moved into its first office space. The '70s were an innovative time in the flat roofing industry; single-ply was introduced as a value-added option to traditional BUR roofing. The Cook brothers road this wave of innovation across the country working for customers like AT&T, GM, John Deere, International Paper, and R.J. Reynolds.
Working for these types of large high profile customers around the country lead to CEI in the late 1970s and early 1980s developing offices around the country, including offices in Winston-Salem, NC, Dubuque, IA, Chicago, IL, Debary and Jacksonville, FL, Dallas, TX, Denver, CO and Sacramento, CA. In early 1999 CEI joined a roofing roll-up called generalRoofing. generalRoofing had 36 offices around the country. In 2005 the Cook family ended CEI's relationship with generalRoofing and returned to doing all of its work from its headquarters in Southeastern Michigan. By 2005 supply chains, technology and transportation had developed so far that CEI's work around the country and across the globe could be directed out of the main office in Howell, MI.
Today, CEI operates out of a new 7-acre facility in Hamburg Township, MI that we moved into in 2015. CEI's services have expanded to include current innovations in both the roofing and architectural sheet metal fields with solutions for the entire building envelope. The second generation of Cooks are leading the business, and a third-generation is starting to work for the company. We look at the past 50 years with pride in our quality and craftsmanship and at the next 50 with anticipation for great things to come.
